About Lismore Anglican Parish
WHO ARE WE?
The Lismore Anglican Parish is a friendly and diverse faith community embracing five suburban and rural centres: Lismore, Goonellabah, Wyrallah, and Nimbin. We also hold regular services at local nursing homes, aged care facilities, and participate in combined ecumenical services in a range of venues and local churches.
We are a welcoming community with a wide variety of worship styles, mission projects, outreach ministries, fellowship, prayer and study groups. We share a deep desire to represent Jesus and live out His teaching in ways which reflect Christ's example with integrity.
WHAT CAN WE OFFER?
Our Lismore church offers worship, study, caring and fellowship opportunities to those who identify as Anglicans wishing to celebrate the richness of our traditions as expressions of the Christian faith. We maintain a major focus on young families and children with a dynamic family service, children’s worship, Sunday School, modern music and contemporary worship opportunities in an Anglican context. More than half of our regular worshippers are under the age of 45.
Youth and young people are a special focus with 6pm Sunday evening services offering a range of teaching, prayer, worship, music, and interactive discussion styles. In addition, we sponsor numerous groups and activities for youth and young adults, including a weekly presence on Lismore campus of Southern Cross University. Lismore has always been a regional hub for youth and young adult ministries and outreach.
WHAT DOES OUR FAITH COMMUNITY LOOK LIKE?
Our multicultural faith community includes a large number of African worshippers and resettled refugees from southern Sudan, many of whom are now naturalized Australian citizens. They bring a deep faith and personal energy to our community. Other nationalities represented include Sierra Leone, Kenya, Solomon Islands, Congo, Sri Lanka, Germany, Holland, and Japan.
Music is an important component of our worship, and we are blessed with a diverse group of musicians and accompanists who offer their gifts to God's glory. The St Andrew's Choir (led by organist Warren Whitney) boasts more than 20 voices and is highly regarded as a classical choir, performing regularly in different configurations with other ensembles throughout the Northern Rivers.
The vibrant 'Joyful Noise Choir' led by Cathy Ridd attracts those who prefer more contemporary material in an informal setting (currently around 25 members).
Various modern combos, unplugged ensembles and larger lineups featuring rock worship bands and brass are used according to need and availability.
HOW BIG ARE WE?
Lismore Parish embraces several worshipping communities in surrounding suburbs and rural villages including Goonellabah, Dunoon, Nimbin, Wyrallah and Fernside.
WHAT IS OUR VISION?
Our Parish has an outward gaze which finds a practical form through compassionate support for resettled refugees, homeless and those in need of emergency food, people involved in local and regional law courts, 24-hour chaplaincy services to hospitals, aged care facilities and to Southern Cross University students and staff. A major outreach for the parish is the full time fully-accredited Parish Pre-School located in the picturesque grounds of St Andrew's Church, Lismore.
We aim to know God through Christ in the power of His Spirit and to be His hands, feet, heart and voice in the world.
